It is important that all items in your kit are kept clean and tidy after being used. this is to ensure a general tidy and professional appearance, but also to ensure the longevity of your products and tools that you are using.
you should be cleaning your brushes after every use to reduce bacteria and germs spreading from client to client. this can be done using IPA (isopropyl alcohol) either 70% or 90% this is a high concentrate alcohol with antibacterial quantities that help destroy any germs that may be sitting on your brushes. it can be decanted into smaller spray bottles for easier access and use when on set.

it is also important to deep clean your brushes at least once a week- this helps to revive them and give them a better overall refresh, as the IPA can be quite drying and damaging to the brushes bristles. To deep clean your brushes you can use a special brush shampoo, or a washing up liquid. wash your brushes thoroughly and rinse to remove makeup build-up, before leaving them to dry naturally.
you can get special brush cleaning matts and drying wracks which can be helpful if you are stuck for space.
in regards to cleaning your kit, it is important to keep everything sanitised and cleanly as mentioned above, this gives a more professional impression and look to your kit. the easiest way to maintain good hygiene is by wiping down hard surfaces such as palettes, mirrors, kit bag handles and product bottles with biodegradable wet wipes. you can also spray the tops of powder products and eyeshadow palettes with a sanitising spray, or IPA to remove top residue. you can also clean hairbrushes and combs in a barbicide solution to remove product build-up and hair/skin cells from the bristles.
